Across the country, many families are struggling with the same difficult question: How can you best support aging family members when you live in a city with minimal housing options? Best Practice Architecture has offered a brilliant solution to issues around multigenerational living and urban density with their latest Seattle project.
MUTT’s creative relationship with Universal Works began in the bar of a London hotel, on a cold December day, with a question: how does an approach to clothing translate into an approach to architecture? As customers of theirs, we already had an understanding and appreciation of the brand – its context, the craft at the heart of it, and the people behind it. Through close discussion with David, Stephanie, and the wider Universal Works family we developed an architectural approach based on these three facets of their ethos to be used in the design of their new stores. 26 Berwick Street is the first fruit of this collaboration and new found friendship. A flagship store at Coal Drops Yard will follow it in October.
This project is about the reinvention of a historic stone building in Sicily, which has been transformed into a small but inventive family house with potential to expand in the future.
Diablo Rosso is a creative think tank and art gallery established in 2006 and based in Panama City. Since its birth, SKETCH and Diablo Rosso have worked together in the design of spaces that foster critical thinking towards arts, politics, and culture. The gallery has recently relocated to the ground floor of a landmark commercial building dating from the 1930s; recognized for formerly being one of the largest department stores in the city and due to its prime location across Santa Ana square, a meeting point for the community and heart of the Santa Ana neighborhood. Today this busy commercial street is a bustling pedestrian avenue crowded with street vendors and loud music; a one of a kind scenario that boosts the gallery’s main driver: encourage the public’s appreciation for contemporary art through the generation of impact in the surrounding community.
Located at No.1 Hunan road, the junction of Hunan road and Zhongyang Road, the Nanjing PHOENIX PLAZA is adjacent to Xuanwu Lake on the east and Xuanwumen Station of Metro Line 1 underground.
The project is a “light” intervention to rehabilitate a single-family house in the town center of the city of Mérida, Badajoz.
Introduction
This project is the interior design of a boutique for a new Japanese cosmetic brand. An old 18th century building in the center of Paris was chosen as first shop. This brand sells around 100 types of cosmetic essence products and each customer can create an original product by mixing products. The name of the brand “en” literally means “Beauty” in Japanese.
The Lodzia factory building, built in 1923 is the only industrial building of its kind in Israel, built in modern technology integrating 19th century European nostalgic references, while searching for a new Jewish – Zionist style. The building has remained a landmark to this very day. Its reddish color and unique shape, is different from the rest of the buildings in the city. The old Factory was built by Polish immigrants from Lodz, imitating the industrial typology that was familiar in their home town.
Earth is one of the oldest construction materials known to man; it can be fired, as with bricks and tiles, or used in its raw state as with adobe or rammed earth. Earth is a malleable material; in the Bible it is claimed that God formed mankind in ‘his’ own image from earth and water. Earth is a soft material that can become strong and weight bearing, while maintaining a breathable skin.
The work is a refurbishment on the ground floor of an early 20th century building in the center of the city of Figueira da Foz. The space, once a small broom factory, was adapted into a loft.
