Stair-Case Malasaña / Mariana de Delás + Marcos Duffo

October 7, 2018 Daniel Tapia 0

Stair-Case Malasaña is the result of an exploration on how to grow up in altitude using the minimum plan space whilst using the staircase as the generator for complementary activities. The client owned a 46sq meter apartment with a small ladder up to the attic which was unventilated and humid and only used for insulation and storage. The proposal was to enhance this area by opening it to the main room and use it as an extra bedroom for guests.

House Tempe / Eoghan Lewis Architects

BRIEF
The site was once a quarry and the existing sandstone cottage ‘Markinch’ is one of several listed cottage on the street built by the same stone mason in the early 20th Century. Our clients did not think it was possible to renovate the old cottage and came to us wanting what they called a ‘Shedio’; a shed for him and a studio for her. One thing led to another once we established that we could, in fact, perform a little surgery on the cottage. There was no ambition to add floor space or rooms, only the ambition to untangle and improve what they had and connect the cottage to the garden, to the sun and to the sky.

House on 72nd Street / Nauzet Rodríguez

October 4, 2018 Daniel Tapia 0

Although, as a starting point, the house has certain architectural elements of obvious interest, the combination of different styles within the design of the house results in a lack of cohesiveness making it hard to understand. Hence, the rearrangement of both the existing spaces and the overall style of the house have been the cornerstones of the entire intervention. Arches and colonial doors remain in the final project, as well as the coexistence with the natural light through numerous skylights that timidly intuited in the original project of the late 50s.
