Timber arches support wavy roof of Mactan Cebu International Airport in the Philippines

Rolling waves inspired the undulating timber roof of this airport on the island of Cebu, designed by Integrated Design Associates as a “symbolic gateway to the Philippines”. The design of Terminal 2 at Mactan Cebu International Airport was led by Hong Kong studio Integrated Design Associates, with support from local firm Budji Royal and industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue.

Henning Larsen completes Kiruna Town Hall as first stage in the Swedish town’s relocation

Kiruna Town Hall, designed Danish studio Henning Larsen, is the first building completed as part of the £1 billion relocation of Sweden’s northernmost town. Henning Larsen designed the circular town hall to become the administrative and cultural centre of Kiruna, which is being moved three kilometres east, as it is slowly being swallowed by an underground mine.

Location and function
Fredriksdalskajen (the Fredriksdal Quay) is located at Hammarby Lake in Stockholm, adjacent to one of the city’s main infrastructural veins connecting Stockholm’s southern suburbs with the central island of Södermalm. The quayside project is one of the last phases of a major urban development project, Hammarby Sjöstad, which has been evolving in southern Stockholm since the late 90s. The site is part of a continuous stretch along the water, from Liljeholmskajen in the west to Hammarby Sjöstad in the east and further on to Sickla lock.

The Walk Above the Vineyards is located near the village of Kobylí on the Kobylí vrch hill. The hill is covered in vineyards and at 334 meters its summit is the highest point in the area. “It was this place that inspired us to design the Walk. The observation deck is shaped like a 334° circle ramp segment, unobtrusively overlooking the beautiful surrounding landscape. The circle represents the natural circle of life and is a symbolic reference to the growth of Kobylí,” explains Jiří Vojtěšek, one of the two architects.

Several rest stops and viewpoints are established along the routes, either to highlight specific sights and outlooks or to mark a point of departure for hiking in the landscape.
