Swedish studio Lookofsky Architecture has used bright yellow storage walls to maximise space in a renovated Stockholm apartment. Belonging to a young couple, the 80-square-metre, one-bedroom 1920s apartment was last renovated in the 1970s. The owners invited Lookofsky Architecture to create a highly functional yet playful interior with plenty of storage space. The resulting design, called Function

This is the first project where Fraher Architects worked alongside their in-house construction company, Findlay Fraher. Together they delivered the project from inception to completion as a design-led, design and build service. Fraher Architects revisited every aspect of the existing building to propose the most efficient use of space whilst creating a strong sense of place within each of the floors. The client wished to fully refurbish the building, adding a lower ground floor and loft extension.

The approach to the renovation of a traditional cottage in the Jizera Mountains was, from the very beginning, determined by the need to reconcile certain design requirements, the genius loci of a mountain village, and the investor’s contemporary lifestyle. The design was created around three determining elements: the shape and orientation of the building, situated on the boundary of the property; direct contact between the house and the street; and the lime tree growing in the yard, the tallest of its kind in the whole Jizera Mountains.
