The vision of remarkable arts philanthropist Judith Neilson, the building is a partnership of architecture and artistic fields. The intention is to have the spaces working together, to have visual arts interwoven with the performing arts. Two architects bring the design together: John Wardle Architects designed the gallery in the east wing and Durbach Block Jaggers designed the performance space. The components are linked centrally by a courtyard and garden.

Currently at No.2800 Yang Shupu Road is Yang Shupu Power Plant, the once biggest thermal power plant in the Far East, which was built by the British investors in 1913. The site is left over with 105-meter-high chimney, huge crane-mouth hanging along the riverside, trestle works that used to carry the coal, clean water pond, damp and dry ash tanks and etc., which boasts spectacular space and impressive form and occupies a crucial position in the public project of Yangpu Waterfront.

July 19, 2020 Hana Abdel 0

On a slope in Pyeongchang-dong, here is an art and culture complex, ‘D.SPACE’, which follows values for culture, art, and education. This project includes a renovation of the interior and exterior space. The place is renewed for a fine art gallery, ‘Mass Arts Plastiques,’ on the 1st basement floor as well as is partially replaced to its deck part of the 1st floor.  The site, located half-way up the hill, is partially surrounded by a great-looking landscape and has beautiful scenery of an overlooking metropolis. The facade and space are planned to use those merits fully enough and blend well with its circumstances.

The existing historic industrial-use building provided a unique canvas and challenging opportunity for this carefully considered adaptive re-use project in the rapidly evolving SOMA neighborhood of San Francisco. Historic elements of the front facade were restored and refurbished, while new modernist infill elements were introduced at the ground level, creating a dynamic relationship between new and old as experienced from the street and pedestrian level. The second floor was transformed into a 4,500 square foot, full-floor “NYC-style” residential loft; focused toward a new 20’x20′ convertible courtyard carved into the existing floor plate with a motorized operable glass roof, and expansive upper-level roof deck.

Art Barn is designed for the purpose of philanthropy and displaying various forms of mixed media contemporary art. Sited at the edge of a steeply sloped mountainside, Art Barn is positioned so that the entry façade addresses a pastoral ranch meadow and the rear façade frames panoramic views of Aspen below. The design was predicated upon the vision of allowing a rural vernacular to rest naturally on the site.

Sharing Space Building Near Taipei / Arcadian Design

June 19, 2020 Collin Chen 0

The building is located in a satellite city near Taipei. The site is at a corner along a city boulevard and is surrounded by the nearby apartment complex at the backside and the neighbor building at the left side. The shape of the site is an irregular polygon, and the overall building layout strategy applies the concept of “urban infill” theory. After fulfilling the building setbacks required by the local building code, the building plan was conformed to the existing terrain and shaped a polygon volume with diverse angles.

Gallery Gif / MIYAO

A place creates meaning. The client wanted to reorganize a former cafe into space where people can get acquainted with young local brands or present their own projects. Together with the customer, we conducted research and created the multi-brand showroom called Gallery Gif — a place where principles of retail stores and exhibition spaces have been combined. There was nothing left that resembled the previous venture: the floors, the ceiling, the walls, and out-dated utilities were completely dismantled. This project was implemented with a small budget and in a short time, and it helped us make quick decisions and quickly implement them. All work there went in parallel. So, we developed the interior design project, which set the general logical framework of semantic and visual concepts, and only after that, we proceeded with branding along with the construction work.
