With the historical evolution over the past century, rural areas, peasants and agriculture that have been losing their positions in the development process have become a social problem that has lasted for a long time in China. In the face of the deep-rooted local culture and autonomous system in rural areas, the inertial strategy of “demolishing it and starting all over again” dominated by design technology seems out of place. To this end, we tried to create a contemporary design expression, which is, giving design interventions after restoration of the site, following the villagers’ pure culture and life needs, integrating into the natural evolution of the village, while restoring the emotional connection between the villagers and their hometown.

STER House is a house that applies the concept of the Stair Tower. In this house design, client wants a lot of greening elements, as well as spaces that feel spacious even though the building will stand on a limited area. With the need to accommodate 2 large cars on the first floor, the remaining land that can be used for green space and other spaces is also significantly reduced. Architect then answered this issue by designing a house with an upper house concept, where the spaces on the first floor are only used for carport and service area, while the main rooms are placed on the second and third floors.

This project is a renovation of a small residence in Vila Madalena, São Paulo. The demand was to create a studio/rehearsal space and sporadic housing for a couple that work in São Paulo but live outside the city. The typical two-storey house at a narrow lot was a slim building attached to one of the boundary walls and 1,5 meters away of the other. The renovation proposed punctual changes that would respect the structural system of the house and highlight some of its original elements; trying to create few wide, fluid and integrated rooms.
