First, the city’s West Side community, rich with immigrants and refugees, is woefully underserved and faces complex challenges around limited access to care and prevalent poverty and food insecurity. Concurrently, the region anticipates a critical shortage of healthcare professionals in excess of 10,000 by 2024.

Bob & Leona DeArmond College & University Center / Integrus Architecture

Meaningful site history as a native gathering place and, subsequently, a working sawmill laid ground to the inspiration for the design, program, and materials usage of the new Bob and Leona DeArmond College and University Center.  This storied history, and enthusiasm for unlocking potential through the collaborative experience, has inspired the design of this 29,000 sf, two-story Student Services, and Classroom building.  Unique cooperation between three institutions, Lewis-Clark State College, University of Idaho, and North Idaho College, honored their students by crafting an impactful and welcoming campus entrance statement that is rooted in the power of place.

La Trobe University Library / Kosloff Architecture

The library typology has changed tremendously over the past 5 years. We worked closely with the leadership group of the library to create an interior that supported a conceptual shift from ‘collection’ to ‘connection.’ This project fundamentally involved the reworking of an existing shell to create a new library for the community of La Trobe University, Bendigo.

Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre / Formline Architecture + Urbanism

Nestled between the Irving K Barber Learning Centre and the Koerner Library located at the centre of Canada’s second largest university, this project unifies architectural themes of memory and social dialogue. This is a place for re-thinking the relationship between Indigenous peoples and Canadian society and a centre for dialogue for community members and scholars and a powerful recognition of Indigenous culture and history in the heart of the campus. This two-level facility is comprised of a portion of existing basement space in Koerner Library and new construction above on the mid-level plaza leading from Koerner Library to the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre.

The project is about the remodeling of an old industrial building for the installation of UNU, United Nations University, and AMA, Agency for Administrative Modernization. The location of the building in Couros area, adjacent to the walled nucleus of the historical center of Guimarães, suffered some segregation relatively to the remaining urban fabric that is accentuated in the final of the century XIX with the construction of new avenues in its limit and, in the mid 20th century with the works of “urban hygiene” and the construction of a new boulevard that connects to the center in the Toural square.

Towards a New Mode of Education. Liangzhu is an area in the city of Hangzhou where a new campus of China Academy of Art (CAA) is sited. At Liangzhu, this art-based comprehensive university plans to have four academic divisions, which are College of Innovative Design, College of Art Management, College of Foundational Education, and College of Continuing Education and will house 3000 full-time students and 1000 continuing education students. The four main objectives of this new campus include developing interdisciplinary innovative talents; promoting design and informational economy; integrating artificial intelligence technology; and setting another benchmark for contemporary design education. At the stage of the campus design competition, CAA asked the participating architects to envision an educational system that would meet the mandates given.

Gengdan Institute is an independent Institute jointly founded by Beijing University of Technology and Beijing Gengdan Education Development Center. It is named after martyr Gengdan, an early Educator, revolutionist, and doctor studying in Britain. In recent years, with the orientation of “open, international, and application-oriented”, the school has taken internationalization as a strategic guide and carried out international education cooperation in an all-around way. Under this background, the international student apartment has been designed and built.

The world-class research institution will be constructed in two phases: the first in Fall 2021 and the second in 2022. It will house state-of-the-art academic facilities, laboratories, offices, sports facilities, retail, restaurants, and housing for an international body of students and faculty.
