ateno embeds vegetated-roof residence into meganisi’s terrain
Located on an uninhabited peninsula in Meganisi, Lefkas, Greece, the Euthea Residence is conceived by Ateno Architecture Studio as a low-impact architectural intervention within a landscape defined by sea, sunlight, and native vegetation. As the first built structure on the site, the project establishes an approach to development that prioritizes integration with the natural environment and minimal ecological disturbance.
The design is organized around a subtle modification of the terrain. A gentle elevation of the ground plane creates an elongated, shaded void that accommodates the primary living functions of the residence. This recessed spatial condition provides protection from solar exposure while maintaining direct orientation toward the open sea.
The building is largely concealed within the landscape. A vegetated roof extends across the structure, reducing its visual presence and allowing it to merge with the surrounding terrain. As a result, the residence remains mostly hidden from inland views, becoming perceptible primarily from the sea. Material selection reinforces this strategy, with locally sourced stone and a restrained palette of earthy tones supporting visual continuity with the site.

Euthea Residence’s linear layout frames uninterrupted sea views
Internally, the spatial organization follows a linear sequence. Living areas and private rooms are arranged along a continuous axis, establishing a progression of spaces oriented toward the horizon. Openings are positioned to frame uninterrupted views of the sea, creating a consistent visual connection throughout the interior.
The surrounding site remains largely untouched. Built elements are limited in extent, allowing native vegetation to define the immediate context of the residence. Through its integration of topography, material, and spatial organization, Euthea Residence project by Ateno Architecture Studio proposes a model for inhabitation that aligns architectural presence with the existing landscape.
