In the village of Sint-Ulriks-Kapelle in the heart of Pajottenland in Belgium lies a former castle domain where “De Verlosser” is now an elderly care center. The park domain is a protected heritage site and includes, in addition to the manor house, carriage houses, a farm, a chaplain’s house, etc. To be able to continue to offer high-quality care for the elderly in the future, PLUSOFFICE has made a master plan that strengthens the classified castle and park domain and sets out the guidelines for the further expansion of a residential care center with 150 beds.

It’s used in packaging, automobile parts, children’s toys, clothing, accessories, wires, furniture, medical supplies and hundreds of other everyday items. This year alone, global production exceeded 51 million metric tons, solidifying its rank as the third-most produced plastic in the world. It is particularly in the architecture, engineering and construction industry that the material stands unchallenged, accounting for 60-70% of its total consumption. So much so that it has indisputably become the most used plastic for building materials worldwide, often found in pipes, fittings, flooring, roofing, window profiles and more. A Place to Watch the Trees Grow / Green Studio

In December 2019, the rural community of Sarsfield faced an unprecedented challenge as the threat of bushfires loomed. Residents grappled with the possibility of losing their homes, estates, livestock, bushland, and attached memories, highlighting the deep attachment Australians have to their land. In Sarsfield, this connection was palpable, rooted in the reliance on the surrounding landscape for sustenance and solace. Despite efforts, the devastation was severe, with numerous homes lost and scars left on the landscape. The experience underscored the fragility of life and the enduring bond between Australians and their land.

Anrenfang Heritage Museum and Anren Station / DDB Architects

Project Background. Xi’an, a renowned historical city of thirteen dynasties, boasts rich cultural resources. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda (Jianfu Temple Pagoda), which was built in Anrenfang of Chang’an City in the early Tang Dynasty, is now located within Xi’an Museum. Due to its special geographical location and history of humanity, it has been designated as the historical and cultural area of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, bearing witness to the city’s long development. In December 2018, Xi’an launched the project called “Comprehensive Renovation of Small Wild Goose Pagoda Historical and Cultural Area”, which aims to establish a museum and tourist service center in the Anrenfang heritage site, covering an area of approximately 12,600 square meters. In the overall planning of historic preservation, the design starts from how to deal with the relationship between architecture, historical sites, and the city, to better integrate architecture with urban life, and to recreate the historical features.

RED Arquitectos integrates corn millstone into facade of Mexican house

Mexican architecture studio RED Arquitectos has completed a cement-covered residence with screens made of stones used for preparing food on the coastline of Cerritos, Mexico. The 130-square metre Casa que Da was completed on a 2,000-square-metre property in Baja California Sur in May 2023. The town – located between La Paz and Cabo San Lucas

Float-en-Fold house / architecture.SEED

A family of five embarked on a journey, envisioning a home that harmonizes space and connection. The guidelines provided by the Client was ‘an open, light-filled house with four bedrooms’. Thus, the Float-en-Fold house emerges as a celebration of transparency and interconnectedness in the charming locale of Punnayurkulam, Thrissur district of Kerala. The plot is south-facing, spanning 27.70 cents, and situated between two houses owned by brothers. The major challenge was the trapped nature of the site, where a substantial part had been allotted to the approach road from the main road in the West.

Chrysalis Entrance Pavilion / Cave Urban

Chrysalis sits at the entry of the Woodford Folk Festival precinct. Designed as a welcoming, cool, and shady space, the structure provides a place to meet friends and family before heading into the festival. Made entirely from locally harvested bamboo, the scale of the large woven pavilion offers respite from the day’s heat while encouraging visitors to explore and experience an organic structure woven by the Woodford Folk Festival Special Projects volunteers. Under the artistic direction of Juan Pablo Pinto, the Cave Urban team upskilled a group of volunteers of diverse backgrounds and ages. The team learned to harvest, prepare, and build with bamboo using simple splitting and wire-lashing techniques.

TC House / Arqcor Proyectos Arquitectura

The house is located on the outskirts of the city of Cuenca, in the valley known as Challuabamba. The location and development of the house are faithful to the topography of the land, unfolding on a single level in an “L” shape without level changes, integrating its interior and exterior social areas while taking advantage of the best views towards the surrounding mountains.
