Karoline Goldhofer Daycare Centre / heilergeiger architekten und stadtplaner BDA

March 1, 2021 Paula Pintos 0

The concept for the daycare centre originates from the Reggio pedagogy applied in it, which was consciously chosen by the non-profit Alois Goldhofer Foundation. In this pedagogy reusing and taking care of the old is essential. Another elementary aspect is that the strengths of the existing building are used rather than its weaknesses. For this, the stock of the old house is activated.

The project objective was to build a house in an elongated corner in a somewhat complicated plot, where the future house would have to learn to live with two-party walls: a large one on the east border, and another one with more proportioned dimensions on its north face.

Wanaka Wedge House / Actual Architecture

March 1, 2021 Andreas Luco 0

Located on an isolated ridge facing the Southern Alps on New Zealand’s South Island, the 3-bedroom Wanaka Wedge House complements the dramatic Central Otago landscape. The geometric-primitive exterior form belies a complex and playful interior. Asymmetric window placement contrasts the simple shape of the house to respond to views and specific proportions of the interior spaces. The exterior of the main house ‘wedge’ is clad in dark gray, corrugated metal panels echoing the contemporary New Zealand vernacular. The contrasting cube of the garage and wine cellar is clad in light gray metal with a matching roof membrane.
