Vakwerkhuis Offices / Vakwerk Architecten

November 19, 2022 Luciana Pejić 0

From the day Vakwerk Architecten started, they had a clear vision for their future office. Once they stumbled upon an old boiler house, once the main source of energy for the Delft University of Technology, they were set on transforming it into a dynamic co-working space that would form a link between the center of Delft and the university campus. The transformed space was to become an inspiring home for both their own company and local entrepreneurs. Sustainability was the main principle achieved by respecting its industrial character, the reuse of materials, and making the building as energy efficient as possible. The Vakwerkhuis is now a vibrant community, once again buzzing with energy!

The special challenge consists in arranging the three utilization units (rescue service, professional and voluntary fire brigade) in a functionally sensible way and at the same time fulfilling the high requirements for noise protection. However, the individual parts of the building should also create a concise overall structure that does justice to the exposed urban situation right at the entrance to the local district.

Shiver House V2 Pavilion / NEON

Shiver House is a kinetic “animal-like” structure that moves and adapts in response to surrounding natural forces. This cabin is an exploration into the idea that Architecture can be used as a means to create a closer emotional link between its inhabitants and the natural world it sits within. In addition, the project explores the idea that Architecture can be made to seem “alive” with the intention that this will engender a deeper and longer-lasting emotional relationship between people and the structures we inhabit.

House in Kaunas / Architectural Bureau G.Natkevicius & Partners

November 13, 2022 Luciana Pejić 0

The plot is located on the slope of the Nemunas Valley river. Historically, it once happened that the Nemunas River was dammed, so the valley below remained, and the Kaunas Lagoon was formed nearby. The place is interesting cause on the other side, on the opposite bank of the valley there is a baroque complex of Pažaislis Monastery, which cannot be seen directly through the overgrown trees during the summer, but when the leaves fall, it is that tete-a-tete glimpse. Sometimes the places have a historical context, sometimes a natural one, and here, in addition to everything else, the place also have a very interesting certain moral, not real context, because it is only from stories, it is supposed, we can only say that there is a connection between this place and Pažaislis Monastery.

Calgary’s Central Memorial Park was developed during Calgary’s first major boom at the turn of the 20th century to show the confidence and optimism of a young city, which is a spirit that remains to this day. In the century since its inception, following significant changes to the area, the elaborate gardens and geometric pathways of the formal Victorian gardens have lost their luster. The ambition of the Sidewalk Citizen Solarium is to reinvigorate Central Memorial Park with a year-round dining and event space that connects the park to the city and the city to the park.

Isala Meppel Hospital / Vakwerk Architecten

November 11, 2022 Luciana Pejić 0

Isala Meppel is a hospital that transcends all stereotypes of what a hospital should look and feel like. Contrary to designing the everyday sterile hospital, Vakwerk Architecten took a more holistic approach and made it their mission to create an environment that would actively contribute to the well-being of its patients. The result is an elegant and friendly building that resembles a healthcare center more so than a hospital, with abundant use of daylight and orientation on its natural surroundings. Carefully selected textures and materials create a warm atmosphere and make visitors feel at home.

Le Costil House Renovation / Anatomies d’Architecture

How to recontextualize the act of building our homes? In other words, how to reconnect our habitat to its territory, taking into account its particularities and resources: climate, geography, history, built heritage, local materials, and regional building techniques? And how to take advantage of this recontextualization to provide an architectural response to the ecological challenges of the Anthropocene epoch?

Collective Housing Les Mouleurs / Martens Willems & Humblé Architecten

November 9, 2022 Luciana Pejić 0

The building is designed for a collective of private clients. Hidden behind an old factory wall in the city center on a plot of the former industrial area of Sphinx Porcelain. The name ‘Les Mouleurs’ is carved in stone above the main entrance. Named after the mold makers from the former porcelain factory that stood at this location. But it also symbolizes the way in which the building was constructed.
