MoederscheimMoonen Architects has designed the new Port Pavilion in the historic Maritime District in Rotterdam. The architects have created a new compact building that replaces the three outdated pavilions that used to be in its place. The pavilion brings more transparency and visibility in order for the historic harbor and the activities that take place in the building can be clearly seen.

Kozina House / Atelier 111 Architekti

Our new home was created in a historical part of a small South Bohemian town, which, although neglected, possesses a rather strong atmosphere and potential. The place attracted us from the beginning for its distinctive character and great location. In the narrow sleepy streets, next to the grassy patch of Kozina Square, we are hidden from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding traffic, while only a few steps separate us from the town center with shops, services, and offices, schools, cinema, theater, and railway station.

We started with the paintings on the wall. The works are by John Prentice (the owner’s grandfather), an artist and engineer. Prentice has written about colour selection turning it into a language akin to a musical score in his thesis Colour Plane. He uses this theory of colour to tell stories.

The Story of Gardening / Stonewood Design

September 16, 2021 Alexandria Bramley 0

The Story of Gardening museum is located on the edge of a small woodland area within the wider visitor attraction at The Newt in Somerset. The museum is set underground with a long glazed elevation opening onto the adjacent woodland. The roof is grassed and is inhabited by the estate deer herd. The museum has as low a visual impact as possible as one approaches it. The approach is dramatic. The woodland floor descends from the museum forming a dell at a lower level. This topography provides the setting for a treetop walkway. The walkway, called “The Viper”, starts its journey at the museum roof level and winds its way through the trees.

The Red Shed / Social Studies Projects

The owners of Electric Car Garage invited Social Studies Projects (SSP) to design a freestanding pavilion to be used as a waiting room for clients and a lunchroom for mechanics. Inspired by greenhouse structures, SSP designed a simple red steel framework clad in twin-wall polycarbonate panels keeping the interior bright, while gently obscuring the surrounding parking lot from view. Open clerestories provide natural ventilation. To complement the signature red of the structure, SSP designed a suite of tables, benches, and cabinets for the interior, powder-coated in coral and goldenrod.

SE24: Whilst Sitting Under a Tree / Turner Architects

September 14, 2021 Alexandria Bramley 0

A growing family needed a larger kitchen and wanted a family room that opened up the garden – there was, however, a large tree that sat directly next to the existing kitchen. It was loved by the family, they have enjoyed sitting under it in the summer, watching the seasons change against it but it was threateningly close to the house and blocking the light and views out.

Wohnhaus Hittisau / KLUMPP + KLUMPP Architekten

The former house which was situated at the site was built as a tiny farmhouse about 100 years ago. Its location was in the steep green landscape close to the old farm of the owners. The idea of the elderly farmers was to stay close by and still provide a helping hand for the next generation managing the farm. The old Austrian „Wälderhaus“ was a small typical farmhouse divided into living accommodation on one side and a type of big barn on the other side.
