Winter Garden for a Mason’s House / SAPIENS ARCHITECTES

August 30, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

The commission was to create a terrace and a winter garden for a house without great formal quality, but with a beautiful sloping garden overlooking a river. The project consisted of creating a terrace, partially covered by a low-pitched roof in natural zinc, and enclosed by aluminium joinery on the central part in connection with the kitchen, in order to create a 15 m2 winter garden entirely glazed on the periphery, adjoining the existing construction.

Tsutaya Books commissioned us to design the company’s twentieth store since its restructuring, located in the city of Ebetsu, Hokkaido. The site is adjacent to Ebetsu’s Four Seasons Promenade, a landscaped walking path, and faces a wooded area with many large trees. With a store concept of “a slow-life library in the woods,” our focus was on creating a comfortable space for customers to enjoy.

893 Ryotei Bar / Allenkaufmann Studio

August 29, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

893 Ryotei in Charlottenburg is a reinvention of an old Schlecker (a German drugstore chain) space on Kantstrasse. It is set back a bit from the street and located in the historically protected 1959-1960 building from architect Hans-Dieter Bolle. An aluminum-glass curtain wall with four large evenly divided structural shear wall-columns defined the interior of the space, which had a predominantly open floor plan. There are a main front entrance and a back door cellar entrance from the parking lot in between the building and the metro rail S-Bahn station Savignyplatz.

New Village Care Residence / DoepelStrijkers

August 29, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

Siza was our client of the first new building for the so-called Nieuwe Dorp. We won a pitch 3 years ago in which they asked for the solution for a building with a disruptive solution for a caring environment. It should include 36 care homes and a large academy in which innovations in care could be tested in order to keep updating the 36 homes. The existing village, in which Mies Bouwman guided the famous fundraising campaign via TV, was built by Van de Broek and Bakema and no longer met the demand. Too low, too small, and also outdated in terms of required technology. She wanted a learning environment that prepared the temporary users of the village for a return to their own familiar living environment as soon as possible.

AP House Urbino / GGA gardini gibertini architects

August 29, 2020 Cristobal Rojas 0

‘AP House’ bears witness to the rebirth of an ancient rural hamlet situated on the top of one of the highest hills in Urbino, highly esteemed for its landscape and environment. The new system of buildings stands on ancient remains dating back to Medieval Communes. Linked to each other on the hypogeum level, the structures rest on a red concrete platform (38 X 20 mt) dominating the surrounding landscape. The core of the houses, which forms a single housing unit, restablishes a central role to this site in the landscape, restoring a direct and empathic dialogue between new buildings and historical stratification. The structures, in their stone shell, free from any superfetations such as gutters or drainpipes andin their measured proportions, are offered to the landscape as pure, discreet and silent artifacts recovering their identity and affinity with the rural cultural matrix of the place.
