Town Hall House is exemplary of Sydney Brutalist architecture. Designed by Ancher, Mortlock and Woolley in 1977, the 23-storey tower was built behind Sydney Town Hall to provide a central location for Sydney Council. Tehran is growing through the transformation of small family houses to apartment buildings, destroying the city view and resulting in limited depth of view in new buildings. Modern buildings in Tehran are usually the same shapes covered with different envelopes. In this project, we tried to break normal boundaries of construction and incorporate architectural strategies responsive to its surroundings to create more interactive life-style by focusing on environmental factors like light, view and topography.

Sustainability
Exceptional air-tightness and above-code insulation keeps this house warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The small windows on the north facade maintain privacy and minimize heat-loss, while the south facade is almost entirely glass designed to passively heat the home in the winter. A passive ventilation strategy cools the home in the summer. Durable and recyclable exterior cladding ensures this home will last with minimal maintenance and have a small environmental impact.

Designed as a contemporary home in the affluent south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, the design of Bayside House needed to provide a considered and secluded space for it’s young family. Located a few blocks back from Port Phillip Bay, the coastal setting of the home provided both inspiration and constraint for the interior design. An effortless sophistication was sought through a palette of natural textures and tones, whilst also providing a durable space for a relaxed family home.

Learn How to Avoid Energy Loss in Your Buildings

Thermal comfort becomes very evident when it is not attended to. When thermal conditions are adequate in one location, our body is in balance with the environment allowing us to perform activities normally. On the other hand, when a space is too hot or too cold, we soon see changes in our mood and body. Dissatisfaction with the thermal environment occurs when the heat balance is unstable, that is when there are differences between the heat produced by the body and the heat that the body loses to the environment.
