Chengdu Tianfu City Landscape / Sasaki

March 19, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

Framed by majestic mountains and rolling hills, the Chengdu basin has been known since ancient times to be a flat haven for settlements. As Chengdu continues to grow, mountains are no longer a remote backdrop, and for the first time, being brought into the city’s bustling foreground. Located at the foothill of the Longquan Mountain Tianfu City is such a new community that couples urban living and scenic mountain settings. The project site offered rich topography with ponds and brooks dotting the ravines. However, due to years of farming and lacking proper forest management, the site was in dire need for landscape and ecology restoration.

Bridgelife Neighborhood Park / Lab D+H

Bridge life Neighborhood park
The Bridgelife Neighborhood is a vibrant public space amenity at the junction of three districts, namely Baoshan, Hongkou and Yangpu District in Shanghai. It was an abandoned Japanese thermal bottle factory named Nissho with more than 20 years of history. The once-popular and extraordinary factory site has become quiet and abnormal, showing signs of decline. We hope to create a “connected bridge” for the district to fully utilize the functions of public communities while protecting historical elements and senses. We retrofit a great number of community features and variable urban space into the venue. The landscape function of the Bridgelife is not singular, but an adaptable place that can be transformed according to changes in users and time. The key idea is to protect this historical heritage with minimized renewal but make it to a park that offers distinct, multi-dimensional experiences. It aims to create a new community center that integrates commercial, cultural, creative, and sports uses through the transformation of old industrial plants.

Landscape Desigen of Langting House / antao

When it refers to the buildings and environments of Chinese style, we can’t help connecting them with slope crest, courtyard, the courtesy order, axis and the accompanying sense of ritual. When they are changed by the design, the more stable these conventional elements are, the more obvious the innovation effects are. In Chinese ancient city, Jimo, the new community landscape designed by Antao, uses imaginative form language and technological means to challenge the inherent cognitions about Chinese traditional architecture symbols and opens a road of cloud plains to the future.
