The project is located between Beijing’s 4th East Ring Road and 5th Ring East Road. Serval Railroads intersect and divide the site into fragments. We call the site the unculivated land, isolated and forgotten, while the rest of the urban fabric undergoes a rapid development. Her primitive vitality is hidden in these broken warehouses and we saw the possibilities to become a secret garden in the urban desert.
Context
Taizhou has housed numerous schools and academies since ancient times. The renowned Anding Academy was built right on the old campus of Taizhou High School, which is also a century-old prestigious school in China stemmed from Taizhou Academy founded on the site where Hu Yuan, a famous educator in Song dynasty, lectured his students. There is still a hall on the old campus in memory of Hu Yuan, further enhancing the cultural atmosphere of the school.
Transform and Rethink
This project includes the transformation in No. 8 Courtyard and No. 19 Courtyard, and also an installation in No. 8 Courtyard, on CaochangSitiao, Qianmen, Beijing.
The place where the ruins Unit 731 of the Japanese Imperial Army used to station is particular not just for its role as a historical site. Its particularity is already defined by the broken walls, silent and solemn gravel ground, rails extending to infinity, and the desolate lofty elms surrounding it, before the architect has time to assess the harmony of such combination.
