An urban house on a big, busy street generally creates the picture of a high, impermeable, and seemingly invisible fortress within. But does it have to be so dead, uninviting, and distant in its approach and appearance? With a quite tight design brief, we decided to break this, and use it to do the opposite – make a lively, inviting, and approachable home.
In Høje-Taastrup you find one of Denmark’s most innovative and unique city halls. The building is designed by PLH Arkitekter in collaboration with ALL and COWI out of a vision of developing modern, flexible work environments for employees, while at the same time giving back to the city and its citizens.

The project concerns the transformation of a 45m2 apartment on the 12th floor of the Boucry Tower (named Super 18 at its delivery), a discreet icon of north-eastern Paris. Built by Jean-Robert Delb in 1974 on the edge of the Plaine Saint-Denis, it is almost invisible in the Parisian skyline and can only be seen from the main infrastructural axes. A true reduction of the metropolis by the diversity of the households it contains and its programmatic diversity is an example of the successful integration of high-rise buildings into the city.
