Lightweight Concrete and Factors Affecting its Durability

This routine has helped me many times when receiving drawings from others that include annotative blocks and text, you may not need as many scales that are applied to these annotative objects. Everything looks fine with the received file shown … Continue reading

Lightweight concrete is widely used and has many applications in the construction. So, its helpful and important to know its durability properties and resistance in different environmental conditions. According to American code the concrete as lightweight is defined the one with air-dry density smaller than 1810 Kg/m3. In other counties this might be slight different (Norway Code assume as lightweight the one that saturated surface dry density is equal or greater than 1800 Kg/m3 and its compression strength should not surpass 85 MPa).Lightweight Concrete and Factors Affecting its Durability

Lightweight Concrete Factors

Blending cement, water, fine aggregate, and lightweight coarse aggregate for instance clay materials, slate materials, and expanded shale makes the Concrete a lightweight. Here are the factors affecting the durability of the concrete considered as lightweight.

  • Freezing and thawing resistance
  • Lightweight aggregate resistance against chemical attack
  • Abrasion resistance
  • Carbonation
  • Corrosion resistance of reinforced lightweight concrete
