The renovation of a three-story terraced house which was built in 1920. The house is located in a historical compound in Shanghai’s Hongkou District, where many Japanese people lived during the foreign concessions era. Actually, a Japanese newspaper of those days was found under the floor while renovations were underway.

Rainbow Arches is a brand focused on contemporary physical meditation and therapy, based on the theory and methodology of Chinese colorization energy. The flagship store is not merely a meditation and classroom space, but also a headquarter office for their staff and a prototype space for their future opening of new stores.

Renovation of House Huayangli / JWJZ ARCHITECTURE

The project is located at the northernmost end of Pingjiang Road in Suzhou, along a river which is on the northern side, and with ancient architecture, such as the Humble Administrator Garden and the Lion Forest Garden, as well as the modern architecture of Suzhou Museum within a radius of 500 meters. While boasting an excellent location, it is also restricted by the need for the protection of the ancient city, so the renovation must be carried out according to the principle of basically retaining the appearance of the residence. The original brick-concrete residence, which was built in 2008, was a typical traditional building in Suzhou, with white walls and black tiles and several inner courtyards.

The rise of rural constructions attracts architects to rush into the wild rural area as aliens, hunting for the meaning of construction there. Most architects focus on rural cultures and consider “nostalgia” as a major concept in their design works. The difficulty here is how to represent this poetic, yet abstract concept with a physical presence of architecture. For us, to regain nostalgia is to regain the lost sense of belonging to the community and the homeland by means of architecture.

HEYTEA at One Avenue / MOC DESIGN OFFICE

This new HEYTEA shop is located in One Avenue, Futian CBD, Shenzhen and it adheres to the spirit of its hosting mall – exploration, innovation and vitality. In the concept of “climbing”, MOC DESIGN OFFICE adopts the staircase as a metaphor and integrates the attitude of pursing progress and climbing with courage in the design. The space and function are carefully dismantled and rebuilt to present simple units, but with changeable combinations.

Masquerade Photography Studio / 123 architects

Located in Qikeshu in northeast Beijing, ‘Masquerade’ is located within close proximity to the city’s thriving 798 Art Zone which is home to several movie and photography studios that are housed within old brick factories. The project sees the transformation of an existing two-storey industrial building in the district, into a photography studio. Rather than merely serving as a typical atelier for the client, the upper level has been designed to host a social meeting space for VIPs, expanding the studio’s function and activities.
